Dorothy "Dot" Beatrice Franck Pennington's Obituary
Dorothy “Dot” Beatrice Franck Pennington, 86, of Bumpass, VA gained her angel wings, Friday, September 13, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Eagerly waiting for her at the pearly gates of Heaven were those she loved and missed dearly. Dot loved anything green, hummingbird’s, John Deere tractors and flowers.
Dot was born November 19, 1937. She was the eldest of five girls to Charlie and Bessie Franck. She lived her entire life in Spotsylvania County/Bumpass, VA. She was married to George “Ed” Pennington for 44 years until his passing December 31, 1999. Dot retired after 35 years as a school bus driver and instructor for Spotsylvania County Public Schools. During this tenure, she transported many, many children back and forth to school safely, helped to train the new fleet of drivers reminding them to always “check your mirrors” as well as when she was no longer able to drive, she was just as thrilled being a bus aid and getting to know the children and their families. She was a lifetime member of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, Co. 2 Ladies Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her son and caregiver, Buddy Pennington of Bumpass, VA, and his girlfriend, Candice Lee; her daughter, Ellen Pennington of Rochester, NY; sisters, Jo Ann Gentry (Charlie) and Joyce Proffitt; brothers-in-law, Jerry Hall and John Chapman; sister-in-law, Stella Pennington; grandchildren, Casey Jessee (James), Tracey Curtis (Steve), Wilson Pennington (Jessica) and GE Pennington (Katie); great-grandchildren, Hope Curtis, Baileigh Curtis, Kiley Pennington, Kolby Pennington, Skylar Jessee, Ty Jessee, Madelynn Pennington, Savannah Pennington and Walker Pennington; and her special friend and caregiver, Catlin Gorbey, who lovingly cared for Dot and made sure her last days were filled with as much love, joy and comfort as could be provided. Dot also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, her faithful dog, Rambo, and an abundance of fellow bus drivers and lifelong friends.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bessie Franck; husband, George “Ed” Pennington, Sr.; baby, Charles Wilson Pennington; daughter, Karen “Paige” Jones; and sisters, Barbara Jean Hall and Carolyn “Teeny” Chapman.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jenny, Raj, Kelly, Crystal and Megan with Compass for their compassionate care during Dot’s final journey to eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A celebration of Dot’s life will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Good Hope Baptist Church Reception Hall, 5601 Courthouse Rd, Spotsylvania, VA 22551.
