Darla Anjuli Carrington's Obituary
Darla Anjuli Carrington’s life began on March 28, 1959, in Los Angeles, California to Sari Alice Toth and William Edward Carrington. Although Darla never met her father, he was a hero to her and any who knew him, as he died saving the life of a drowning woman from the Sacramento River. Thus, it’s not hard to see where Darla got her extraordinary courage.
After graduating from Halifax High School, in South Boston, VA, Darla enlisted in the United States Military (Army), which is where she met the love of her life, Wendell Fields in 1985. On July 22, 1988, Darla and Wendell were united in Holy Matrimony in Arlington, VA, which endured until Darla’s death did them part on August 25, 2023.
The fond memories of Darla will forever be imprinted onto the hearts and minds of all who knew her. However, she will especially be missed by her loving husband of 38 years, Wendell; and her children, Sharonda Grace (Chappail, Kendra, Anjuli Brooks), Artie Grace (Kaleigh Tiano, Marley, Aria), Greg Nelson (Shaniqua, Brayden, Malachi), Jarren Fields (Jadah), Frances Nelson, Alexis, Alia, Alisha, and Victoria Fields, Jasmine Rodriguez; Chris, Jordan and Michael Fields. In addition to Darla’s grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and the host of many close relatives and loving friends, which are far too many to acknowledge.
After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, Darla worked in the intelligence field for several years serving as Top Secret Document Control Analyst. However, Darla’s entrepreneur spirit led her to create several businesses throughout her life, to include: A White Glove Cleaning Service, Harvest Catering, Tender Care Day Care, Frills Restaurant, Mortgage Star Home Lending, Smoke Pit Café. All the while becoming a loving foster parent, of which the majority were soon adopted into the family. This is a testament to her genuinely caring spirit, because she too was a foster child in need of a committed home.
Darla was a go-getter and a gatherer in every sense of the word. She would rise early in the morning to go yard selling, shopping, and the like to provide for her families every need, which she did masterfully. The unique finds that she would walk away with let you know that the previous owner didn’t have a clue of the gem they once held. She could always talk you into a lower price, even if it was at the Commissary. Darla was certainly in the class of a master home maker and negotiator.
Darla Anjuli Carrington departed this life after a lengthy battle with cancer, which was fought with the tenacity, fearlessness, courage, and determination that is uncommon to man. Her battle was predominately victorious until the very end, in which cancer’s persistence claimed the life of our precious Darla at the age of 64 years on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, where her family and most dearest friends witnessed her take her last breathe and enter into God’s Glory and Kingdom.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA.
