There are no words to describe the pain we all feel in the loss of Darla. She was a big sister to me, and she championed every obstacle that came my way when we were in junior high school and high school. It was always a joy to see her enter a room – big blue eyes, thick curly hair, and her infectious smile. Not only were we in school together, but we attended church together, got part-time jobs together, broke curfews together, and got into mischief together. She was fun to be around and always assured you that everything was going to be okay. Darla, Jimmy, and I used to go downstairs in our basement and practice dances we would see on “Soul Train”. She was a sweet spirit, and she was filled with courage. She loved hard and fought to protect and care for those she loved. She had a great big, infectious laugh, and a servant’s heart, always taking care of everyone. She was compassionate with the elderly as well as children. She has raised an amazingly beautiful family, and she has left an indelible mark upon every person who had the privilege of knowing her. I admired her strength and courage throughout her illness, but I am in awe of the beautiful legacy and life that she’s built with her wonderful family. No matter what, she kept going.
To Wendell, Sharonda, Artie, Jarren, and all of her beautiful children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Heaven got another angel on August 25, 2023. Darla is no longer in pain and is present with the Lord. You will see her on the other side! Please know that I love you all, and you are all in our prayers.
