I only knew Dan for a short time, but in that time, I came to know a strong, genuine, proud man who loved his wife, his kids, and his country. I loved his stories about his time in the service, and he and I would talk every morning for hours. I wish I could have spent more time with such a great man.

I was so proud when I heard that Dan attained the highest enlisted grade in the U.S. Army. RIP SGTMAJ.

I met SgtMaj Dan before I went to OCS. He shared with me a few of his workout plans that helped me prepare and I still use some of them to this day. I also enjoyed listening to his stories about when he was serving. He was a great soldier and my family sends our condolences.
I met the Calabrese family when I was in 5th grade attending my last year at C.E Smith school on Willard st. Before going to Fenner school in Falconer. I took it they had just moved into the area s nice house toward the corner of Willard and Buffalo streets. What a great family, his dad Sam was one of the nicest guys I met in my life and I can still hear the way he called me Danny. His mom was great too his older sisters and his brother Sam that used to hold band practice in the basement, with Gil Lindahl and others. They’re band great with one song that stands out in my head “In A Gadda Da Vida” by Iron Butterfly. One day somehow we had both gotten up on the roof of their house and dared each other to run and jump off I did No problem Dan did and broke his ankle and his mom made sure that friendship ended and I can see why. Sam was always a good older brother who had more girls after him than Elvis Presley. I’m not even kidding!! That’s more than I remember bout most of my childhood. Rest In Peace Dan

We met 25 years ago for the 1st time. You asked me about my military service in Vietnam, and I shared. What I remember most is your ability to actually listen to what I was sharing. Praying that you Rest In Peace Sargeant Major...Hoorah!
Dan, we met so late in your life, so sorry to see you go so soon. Long after you were out of uniform, you were still Soldiering and a Leading. I watched you helping young people and advising those still serving. Your Mission Is Now Complete!
