GOD SPEED CHRISTINE!
You were a supersonic blazing star
Who shot through all our lives,
Gathering friends from near and far
Joking, laughing—giving big “High Fives!”
Always the leader of the pack
People flocked to you, en masse
Loving your outgoing comedic humor
Your stories, and your ever-present sass.
In later years you married your prince
(Or so you naively thought)
In a castle in Ireland, with family and friends
But it was a pig in a poke you’d bought.
When you first were pregnant with Amberleigh
You and I nightly perused the book store
Looking for ways to make your child smarter
And to make her life easier, too, a stór.
You learned that active hands were vital
To increasing one’s intelligence score
So you patiently studied sign language
To teach your children to communicate more.
Your zest for life was passionate
Your thirst for knowledge great
And always, your kindness and smiley face
Brought sunshine to our lives – first rate.
Your life, a blessing to us all, was eventful and full
Didn’t ever want it to end, you’d so much life to live
But time we spent with you was fun-filled, never dull
Sadly for us, God needed you, and left us all to grieve.
You loved your brothers and sisters
(Nieces, nephews, cousins, all the family too)
And would have liked to see them more
But you moved so far, far away
That traveling, sometimes was a chore.
Your children were your pride and joy – your life
You always held them in the greatest esteem
Trying to make them the best they could be
Praying they each would follow their dream.
Besides your sister Kimberly, Grandpa2e, Pop-Pop
Family and friends who greeted you too
Was Duke, who welcomed you with open paws
Senzoči, your eyeless cat, and Muck, happy, all, to hail you.
May God protect you, Kissy, for the time we’re apart,
When my life down here is done we’ll meet again
You’re with me always now, enfolded in my heart.
I feel your spirit and know God Blesses you. Amen!
I know you’re safe under God’s strong arm
Where one day each of us are meant to go
Right now you’ll suffer no more angst or harm
But, my dear, we’ll forever love and miss you so.
Love Momxxxx Slainte
IN MEMORIAM
Christine Marie Verhagen of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away on June 25th, 2017 in a tragic car accident in which only she was involved. It was shocking but thankfully she did not suffer any pain. An enthusiastic participant in life, she took in stray animals as well as people, and was beloved by a wide-ranging group of family and friends from all across the globe. She loved her job at Old House Vineyards and cherished all the people she met there. God used His golden buzzer to bypass any further pain and sorrow she might be subjected to and bring her directly to Heaven. He felt that her job here on earth was completed and she was in desperate need of a rest. She was, after all, an overachiever and she finished her mission on earth faster than anyone expected or wanted. Like a bright star streaking across the universe, she left people basking in the warmth of her incredible smile, her kindness, selflessness, generosity, and incomparable sense of humor. I am so proud of the person she became and the happiness she spread all around. She was a loving daughter and friend who always made me feel special and included. We had an unbreakable bond. She was my advisor, my friend, my confidante, and I will treasure the time we spent together, through laughter and tears, for the rest of my days.
It is a heartbreaking and sudden loss but we accept God’s will and now she will be reunited with all her family and friends who preceded her in death, possibly conversing in Gaelic with her Irish relatives who are welcoming her home with a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream or some Wicked Bottom wine, as she simultaneously bakes scones, whips up Irish soda bread and cooks exotic dinners for the masses, while throwing in a few animated jokes... I’m sure the party’s already started in Heaven under her direction. Our love and prayers are with her as she begins her new journey. Her infectious spirit remains with us. She would not want people to be depressed at her passing but rather to celebrate her life and to go on with theirs, knowing she is at peace. She was a great mother, homeschooling her children so they would get individual attention, and she loved them dearly. She also loved her large family and friends, her animals, and her Irish roots and was trying to plan a trip to Ireland this fall to visit her Granny Mae. She would want us to appreciate and love each other, while improving our own lives, remain positive and try to make the world a better place, until our own time on earth is finished and we all meet up with her again. Vaya con Dios my beautiful daughter, forever in my heart and thank you; It was a blessing to have had you in my life. Bending but not yet broken. Mom xoxo- She is now another guardian angel watching over us all.
I would like to express my sincere thanks for the hundreds of family members and friends who contacted us, who gave of themselves to help Christine’s family and who worked so hard and tirelessly to do what had to be done to get her children on track. It shows what kind of a person she was that so many gave so much in honor of her. Also thank you for the generosity of those who sent money to the GoFundMe page to help her children, Amberleigh, Liam and Kyleah. We are indebted to you.
Dear Amber, Liam and Kyleah,
Your time in Bradley Beach, NJ was the most fun our neighborhood ever had. When you all moved to Culpeper, it was a sad day for everyone. All of our amazing beach, pool, birthday parties and holidays, are still talked about every year. From the kid's plays, to the
grown-ups singalongs, "I will survive" those were happy days. Giving all the kids gum for the first time, Liam swallowing his, and me saying don't tell your mom, was a very funny
precious moment. As soon as Liam saw Christine he said, "I swallowed my gum mom" and Christine looked at me and we laughed. We know your years in Virginia have been
challenging and always knew you all would figure your stuff out but you all now have the big challenge of making your mother proud.
Amber when we spoke I hope you realized how much all of you are loved by your Bradley Beach family. We all want to help you come here for a visit for a bit to reminisce about
your mom and your early childhood. We hope our emotional support will help you and we would love to take the time to chat a bit about the future. Everyone here sends their love and condolences.
Christine, please rest in peace my dear friend knowing there are so many family and friends watching over, Amber, Liam and Kyleah, for all the rest of their days. Till we meet again, Amen.
