Charles William Racer's Obituary
Charles William Racer, 81, of Sperryville died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born February 24, 1933 in Rappahannock to the late Fairella Racer, and raised by Ethel and Cleveland Ramey.
Mr. Racer was a Deacon at Slate Mills Baptist Church. He adored children so much that he drove a bus off and on from the 1950’s to 2012. Farming was his passion; he loved his animals and making hay. His other passion were his two great grandchildren, Samantha Keys and Katlyn Haskins who lived with him. Above all, his family and wife of 59 years was his life.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Racer; his children, Debra Frye and her husband, Buck of Culpeper, William “Buddy” Dodson and his wife, Shirley of Sperryville; son-in-law, Jimmy Kilby of Culpeper; their foster son, Jacob Butler and his wife, Krystle of CA; his grandchildren, Christy Keys, Darren Dodson and Darlene Dodson, all of Sperryville, Kevin Kilby, Jeff Kilby, Jason Kilby and his wife, JoAnna, Cheryl Kent and her husband, John, all of Culpeper, Austin Butler and Cali Butler, both of CA and Ellis M. Frye of Front Royal; nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene and Marie, and one daughter, Betty Kilby.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11 am at Slate Mills Baptist Church, 10 Church Lane, Boston, VA with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating.
Interment will follow in Etlan Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Darren Dodson, Kevin Kilby, Jeff Kilby, Jason Kilby, Roy Atkins, Jr. and Posey Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Kilby, Buck Frye, Jacob Butler, John Coates, Ronald E. Johnson, Jr. and Mike Taubenberger.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the family, c/o Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
