I apologize for being so late in sharing a message for Buddy. Buddy was one of the most caring and humble people I have ever known. I met him at the Manor, when I was a student volunteer visiting the facility with Washington and Lee University’s Campus Kitchen program. All of the students who visited the Manor came to know and love Buddy, and he seemed to be genuinely interested in and impressed by each of us. Buddy would ask questions, shake hands, and offer prayers to all. He often said that his goal for each day was just to be humble and kind, and he gave new meaning to the word resilience. Buddy passed away just a week before my graduation, and a week before I had planned to say goodbye. I hope that his family and friends still fondly carry the memory of his amazing strength and spirit. May you rest in peace, Buddy.

When I move to Tidewater in 1980 I walked into a hair salon in the mall...and met Buddy. He changed my life from that moment on. He gave from an open heart--he was so generous with his time and talents and love. HE really LOOKED at whoever he was talking to and you could feel his connection to those around him. He had the soul of an artist. We are all lucky and blessed to have known him. He is always in our hearts. Condolence to his family and all who loved him.

I played in a band with Buddy in 1966. We were called the Clique and Buddy played bass. We had a lot of fun, but then I lost touch with him after the band broke up. Years later, he walked into my guitar and amp shop, Charlottesville Music and though I hadn't seen him in 40+ years, I recognized him immediately. We had fun catching up, but that was the last time I saw him. He was a good guy with a big personality. RIP, Buddy.

I'll never forget the first time I met Buddy. I was living with William Curling and it was Sunday night and the doorbell rang. I answered the door and standing there was Jack Smith and this big guy in a long trench coat ( it was raining ). Buddy introduced himself and immediately started talking about starting a band and said Jack told him that I should be the bass player. I did'nt know what to think cos his presence was so overwhelming but I knew I had to get to know this guy. We just hit it off from the get go. I had no idea that he would forever influence my life and my music like he did. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way and I grateful of the love and time we had together. Gary Stultz
