Zelma Fern Lovejoy Hall Taylor's Obituary
Zelma Fern Lovejoy Hall Taylor was born July 17, 1930 to the late Ida Bell Johnson and the late Frederick Douglass Hall. She departed this life at the age of 91 on January 3, 2022 at home under Heartland Hospice Care.
Zelma was born in Washington, DC and raised in McLean, Virginia. She attended Cardozo High School in Washington, DC. Zelma worked as a receptionist for the Department of the Navy at the Naval Annex in Arlington, Virginia Records Control Branch/Records Review Navy Annex for Naval enlisted officers. She received several letters of appreciation and outstanding performance during her years of service.
In 1943, Zelma was baptized in the creek by Rev. John Fairfax and became a member of First Baptist Church Chesterbrook. At First Baptist, Zelma served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Senior Choir, Second Choir, Usher Board, Never Idle Club, and served on the Building Fund Committee for many years.
On March 14, 1964, Zelma married William Taylor Sr. until his death in 2002. They had been married for 38 years. They had two children from this union - Ida Lynn Taylor Brooks and David Wilmont Taylor. Zelma also became a stepmother to Bessie, Rose May, Corrine, Sarah, and William Jr.
Zelma is survived by her two children Ida T. Brooks (Henry) and David W. Taylor (Geralyn); grandchildren Phylicia Appling, Jonathan Davis, Jessica Brooks, Henry Brooks II, and Alexis Brooks; two great-grandchildren Olivia Davis and Brooklyn Stewart; three sisters in-law Valerie Johnson, Helen Johnson and Alvenia Johnson; one brother-in-law Stanley Williams; two godchildren Audrey Mills and Andre Johnson II; best friend Cordelia Williams, and a host of nieces, and nephews, relatives and friends.
Zelma’s family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Chesterbrook, 1740 Kirby Road, McLean, VA, with a funeral service to follow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
