Yuk "Helen" Ng Moy's Obituary
Yuk “Helen” Ng Moy, 88, of Culpeper, VA died Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 28, 1936, in Toishan, a small town in the southern part of China.
In her early 20s, Helen, a brave, independent young woman, immigrated to New York City on her own and soon reunited with her husband-to-be, Tommy. They married shortly afterward, in 1965, and moved to Rockville, MD, where they settled and started a family. Arthur, Alan, and Jeffrey were born between 1966 and 1974. Over the next couple of years, Tommy came to realize his passion for cooking and serving people good food, and so began their pursuit of the American Dream. Then one weekend, during a random outing, Tommy and Helen came upon the quiet, small town of Culpeper, VA, and they immediately knew that this was the place for them to settle and become masters of their own destiny, to open their own restaurant.
Shortly afterward, in 1976, Tommy and Helen opened THE JADE Restaurant, serving authentic Chinese Cuisine in rural Culpeper, VA. Tommy managed the kitchen and Helen oversaw the dining area, welcoming each customer with a bright smile and inquiry, “How are you?” Over the next three decades, they formed countless close relationships and made many priceless memories with their patrons and the community.
In Helen’s later years she loved spending time with family, especially her two grandsons, and enjoyed seeing old friends while out and about in town, often remembering them by the number or specific dish they ordered at The Jade.
Helen is survived by her three sons, Arthur Moy, Alan Moy (Stephanie), and Jeffrey Moy (Scottie); two grandchildren, Nathan Moy and Lincoln Moy; one step-sister, Jackie Eng; one brother-in-law, Chick Ho Mui; niece, Min Mui; nieces-in-law, Mary Mui and Agnes Mui; nephew-in-law, Paul Mui; grandnieces; Lucy Mui and Wing Pui Mui; grandnephew, Kevin Mui, as well as a host of other family members.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Chuk "Tommy" Yin Moy; and two nephews, Shu Fan Mui and Gin Sun Moy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
