Xavier Van Bastelaer's Obituary
Xavier E. Van Bastelaer, age 87, formerly of Culpeper, VA died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Old Trail Retirement Community in Crozet, VA.
He was born Aug. 8, 1927 in Gosselies, Belgium to Edgard and Ghislaine (Leroux) Van Bastelaer. Xavier spent his childhood years in Belgium and came to the U.S. in his early adult years. He was employed at Brandy Rock Farm in Brandy Station, VA where he worked for 50+ years.
He loved the outdoors, especially landscaping and gardening, with a special interest in growing orchids. One of his favorite past times was working in his greenhouse. He was a member of the Precious Blood Catholic Church in Culpeper and attended regularly. Xavier would always help anyone in need. He enjoyed the simplistic things in life.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Monique Lily Van Bastelaer, his son and daughter-in-law, Frederic & Sheila Vanbastelaer of Centerville, IN; three grandchildren, Brittany Vanbastelaer of Troy, OH, Austin Vanbastelaer of St. Louis, MO and Alexis Vanbastelaer of Indiana; two sisters, Marguerite Van Bastelaer and Jeanne-Francoise Madoux (Louis) of Belgium; two brothers, Jean-Marie Van Bastelaer (Monique) and Pierre Van Bastelaer (Eveline) of Belgium.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Gabrielle Van Bastelaer, Therese Van Bastelaer and Anne-Marie Van Bastelaer, all of Belgium.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 2 pm at Fairview Cemetery with Fr. Anselme Malonda-Nkuanga officiating.
