Winfrey J. Barfield, Jr.'s Obituary
Winfrey Johnson Barfield, Jr., 53, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 16, 2014 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, surrounded by people who loved him. He was born October 2, 1960 in Charlottesville to the late Winfrey J. Barfield, Sr. and Caroline Hawkins Barfield.
Winfrey graduated from Culpeper Co. High School in 1979 and was voted by his peers as “most unforgettable” – a trait that followed him the rest of his sweet life. He enjoyed many years as the Assistant Manager of Duncan Brothers Tire Co. in Culpeper, giving him the opportunity to talk, laugh and share stories with everyone. He had a larger-than-life personality with a heart full of love and joy and he certainly never met a stranger. If Winfrey had in dollars what he had in friends, he would be a millionaire.
In his latest years his favorite time was that spent with the children he loved the most. He filled the uncle role well, whether it was blood related or love-related, he treated all the same.
Winfrey is survived by his sister, Susan Barfield Edwards, and her husband, Barry Jr. of Culpeper. He is also survived by two treasured nephews, Ethan and Evan Edwards, two aunts Betty Southard and her husband George and Judy Harrison and her husband, Richard, and one uncle, Franklin Barfield and his wife, Margaret. Additional survivors include extended family Karen Fay and her children, Dani, Meagan, and Riley. He also leaves behind Janie Abers, whom he dearly loved and did from the day they met.
In addition to his family, Winfrey was graced with many friendships of those he so cherished and loved.
