William Shawn Peet's Obituary
William Shawn Peet came into the world abruptly, on July 13,1959. Born prematurely, he struggled to live, and live he did. Due to his father's career, Shawn's formative years were spent traveling the world with his parents, Eileen and Bill, and his brother James, two and a half years younger.
But Shawn was soon to face another severe threat: the onset of schizophrenia, a debilitating, often fatal disease which requires lifelong treatment.
With many ups and downs, and the staunch support of his mother, Shawn was able to live independently, to enjoy reading, music, political debate, and friendship. To understand his own disease and to try to help others, he took psychology courses at Germanna Community College.
Then again, Shawn was faced with imminent death, when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, and was told he had six months to live.
Shawn died six years later, on August 30,2022. He died peacefully, surrounded by loving friends.
His endless sense of humor and thoughtfulness will be missed.
Some would say his survival to the age of 63 was miraculous. His friends would say his courage, cheerfulness, and kindness despite his trials was the real miracle.
Shawn is survived by his brother, James, and sister-in-law, Becky; his nieces, Jennifer and Katy; as well as several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Friends are cordially invited to attend an informal Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 17, at 11:30 a.m., beginning with a service of remembrance and reception following, which will be held at Phoebe Muenger's home: 117 West Fairview Road, Culpeper, Virginia.
