William R. "Billy" Hawkins' Obituary
William R. “Billy” Hawkins, 59, of Castleton passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 26, 2011. He was born February 22, 1952 in Castleton to Elizabeth Hawkins Switzer and the late James T. Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins was a member of Hope Hill Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of Billy Hawkins Tree Service. He was a hardworking man and an avid outdoorsman. He loved his family and spending time with them and will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Teresa Burke Hawkins, son, James R. Hawkins and his fiancé, Angela Whorton of Castleton, his siblings, Pauline Grigsby of Culpeper, Mary Knisley of Fredericksburg, Charlie Hawkins and his wife, Betty of Castleton, Hazel Haines and her husband, Richard of Brandy Station, Shirley Hitt of Castleton, Lois Alther and her husband, Joe of Rixeyville, Junior Switzer and his wife, Gloria of Viewtown, Bobby Switzer of Culpeper and Ruthie Bower and her husband, Norman of Eastman, GA.
Additional survivors include his mother-in-law, Linda Burke Stone, sister-in-law, Angel Walker and her husband, Howie, brother-in-law, Michael Burke and his wife, Sandi , two favorite nephews, Allan Hawkins and his wife, Megan of Castleton and Patrick Hill and his wife, JoAnna of Castleton, nineteen nieces, eight nephews, many great nieces and nephews and best friend, William “Stumpie” Compton of Culpeper.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, James T. Hawkins, Jr., one sister, Josephine Pickett, stepfather, Pastor Milton Switzer, father-in-law, Charles Burke and brother-in-law, Andy Burke.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 12 p.m. at Hope Hill Baptist Church, 11 Hope Hill Rd., Castleton, VA with Pastor John Lines and Rev. L.D. Savage officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Hawkins Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Kestner, James Riley, Jr., Davis Eisemann, Zachary Zamudio, Randy Thomas, Allen Clatterbuck, Jr., William Compton and Randy Hitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Compton, Robert Whorton and Jamie Dwyer.
