William Richard Greene's Obituary
In loving memory of William Richard Greene, aged 83, born April 4, 1941, to the late William and Ethel Greene, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
Richard is survived by his two children, Craig Richard Greene (Rhonda) and Denise Greene Barr (Charles); one sister, Vernie Smith Overbey; one brother-in-law, Russell Lee Kilby (Susie); two sisters-in-law, Marcia Dennis Bilal (Aqeel) and Jacqueline Dennis Banks (Eliza); one aunt, Fredericka Hill; four grandchildren, Ian Greene, Brandon Greene, Julian Greene, and Charles Barr III; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn J. Greene; and his parents William “Bill” and Ethel Greene.
Richard graduated from George Washington Carver Regional High School Class of 1959 where he was a member of the band, handicraft club, and the basketball team. Richard joined Antioch Baptist Church at a very early age. He was employed by Loadmaster Corporation formally called Old Dominion where he was a master welder. He then later took a position with Culpeper Wood Preservers before retiring.
Richard found joy in listening to all genres of music, gardening, especially growing his tomatoes, family moments, and indulging in Western movies, old sitcoms, game shows, and sports, especially football and horse racing. He watched the stock market every day and was an amateur investor.
He also loved Philadelphia Cheesesteaks. He especially enjoyed going to casinos and the racetrack with his beloved wife, Carolyn. They enjoyed life and were able to travel to the United States and a few Caribbean countries.
He was a great human being, very funny, and a good provider for all his family. He always encouraged his children to be good students and taught them to have a strong work ethic. He was a spiritual and giving person. He was truly loved and will be missed. May his gentle spirit be remembered always.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church, 202 S. West St., Culpeper, VA with a viewing starting at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
