William Ronald Burner's Obituary
Mr. William Ronald Burner, age 65, peacefully took his last earthly breath at the VA Hospital in Long Beach, CA on Friday, January 27th, 2012. Although he fought valiantly and was inspirational in his fight, he succumbed to complications of metastatic prostate cancer which was diagnosed in the fall of 2010.
Born November 26, 1946 in Arlington, VA to John and Senie Burner, he lived in Virginia, Germany, Georgia, and California. In his younger years he served as a Military Police with the U.S. Army and later as a peace officer in D.C. and Vienna, VA. He spent the majority of his career excelling in the field of workman’s compensation insurance. His work ethic was nothing shy of extraordinary. After retiring from Risk Enterprise Management, he continued working as a consultant despite his illness right up until his untimely death.
As a devoted family man and through his exceedingly generous nature, he mastered the role of husband and father. He was truly our best friend, number one ally, and greatest supporter. Ever the craftsmen, he loved working with his hands and was a most capable builder and repairman. Both his physique and competitive nature made him a natural athlete allowing him to be proficient in many sports including hunting, baseball, golf, and tennis. He had an incredible sense of humor and his laughter was infectious in the most amazing way. Sometimes a man of few words, he reveled in the serenity of nature- mountains and valleys, farmhouses, and wide open spaces. Fall was his favorite season. He enjoyed a good meal and a full glass.
Survivors include his longtime devoted wife, Carol A. Burner and his beloved children, Bonnie Marie Sides; husband Chad A. Sides; and pride and joy, grandson, Ryder Preston Sides; sons, William Chase and Daniel Allen Burner; as well as step sons, John Stephen and Michael Duffy Martaus, along with his step grandchildren, Maddie, Connor, and Chase and daughters-in-law Phyllis Diane Martaus and Marie Burner. Billy is also survived by his brother, Walt Burner, as well as, his sisters Abbie Miller and Kathy Blevins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Senie, as well as his sister Libby Nalls and his brother Dolen Burner.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike Culpeper, VA 22701 followed immediately by memorial services.
Interment with military honors will take place thereafter at Culpeper National Cemetery.
