Virginia Mae Thornberry's Obituary
Virginia Mae Thornberry, 95, of Fredericksburg passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Hughes Home.
She was an active member of Spotswood Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and seamstress. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling the continental US and hiking with her husband.
Virginia is survived by three children, Robert Thornberry and his wife, Mary of Davidson, NC, Sylvia Hollar and her husband, David of White Plains, MD and Judy Balch and her husband, Richard of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, Michael Hollar and his wife, Christy of Round Hill, VA and Elizabeth Thornberry and her husband, Joseph Hale of San Francisco, CA; three step-grandchildren, Trip Balch and his wife, Diane of New York, Prescott Balch and his wife, Melita of Illinois and Susan Longboy and her husband, Arnold of England; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Howard Thornberry and two brothers, Graham James, Jr. and Roy James.
Virginia’s family will receive friends Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11:00 am at Spotswood Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, VA at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers Virginia’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Gideon’s International, 109 Gordon Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22405 or to Spotswood Baptist Church, Mission Trips, 4009 Lafayette Blvd, Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
