Virginia "Ginny" Parker Rowland's Obituary
Virginia “Ginny” Parker Rowland of Culpeper died on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. She was born in Culpeper County on April 26, 1920 to the late Harry L. Parker and Elinor A. Parker.
Mrs. Rowland was a retired government employee with more than 30 years of service having worked for both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. She was employed by the Corps of Engineers at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska while her husband was on duty there.
She had been a member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church since 1977. She was also an active member of the Edith Burton Circle; member of the Christian Women’s Club (CWC) of Culpeper; the Woman’s Club and the Welcome Wagon Club of Culpeper. She had resided at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community since October 2001.
Mrs. Rowland was preceded in death on April 1, 2000 by her husband of 45 years, CMSgt. Bowman “Bo” W. Rowland. She was also preceded by three brothers: Elmer, William and Franklin Parker; three sisters: Georgie P. Timmons, Mary P. Deal and Elsie P. Hawkins; and her first husband, Charles Earl Hawkins.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. John K. Rowland and his wife, Sigred of Arlington, VA and Thomas A. Rowland of Charlotte, NC; and two grandsons, Justin Alan and Christopher Bowman Rowland, both of Branchburg, NJ.
Additional survivors include eight nephews, two nieces and one great nephew and one great niece; and former daughter-in-law, Deborah Rowland of Branchburg, NJ.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 1 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Rev. Randy Orndorff officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery.
