Virginia Lee Hitt's Obituary
Virginia Lee Hitt, 88, of Culpeper died Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Oak Springs of Warrenton, with her daughters by her side.
She was born on September 3, 1926, in Page County, a daughter of the late Manuel Hardy Walker and Rosie Deavers Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Lee Hitt, and four brothers: Landon, Manuel , Edward and William Walker (stillborn), and two sisters: Delvina McClannerhan and Valley Mae Shugars.
She was lovingly called G.G. by her family because that was much easier for the little ones to say than great grandma and she became G.G. to the nurses and CNA’s in the health care facilities where she resided. She was proud of her Native American ancestry and loved being outdoors. She filled her pantry with vegetables that she grew in her garden and she filled her yard with many flowers. In the winter months she put together large puzzles and always had one started on a table. She spent hours reading her Bible and shared its teachings with all who knew her. She was a member of the Nethers Mills Lighthouse Tabernacle Church near Sperryville, VA, and truly loved her church family there.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Hicks and her husband, Harold of Locust Grove, Shirley Franklin and her husband, Robert of Sperryville and Janet Lemen of Culpeper; nine grandchildren, Terry Givler and her husband, Kevin of Coatesville, PA, Charles Caperton of Sperryville, Christopher Caperton of Culpeper, Carlos Caperton and his wife, Melissa of Fleming Island, FL, Cynthia Utterback and her husband, Zach of Front Royal, Curtis Caperton and his wife, Donna of Front Royal, Angela Lewis and her husband, Allen of Culpeper, Robert “Robbie” Lemen of Culpeper and Amanda Lemen, formerly of Culpeper; fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 2 to 5 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 1 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Charles Clinedinst officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is serving the family.
