Vergie Marie Atkins' Obituary
Vergie Marie Atkins, 86, of Lynchburg, formerly of Sperryville died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 12, 1924 in Sperryville to the late Ernest and Mattie Nun Atkins.
Mrs. Atkins was a past member of Beech Spring Baptist Church in Sperryville.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Bennett and her husband, James of Madison Heights, VA, two grandchildren, Bob Bennett of Madison Heights and Amy Wilde of Duluth, GA, and four great grandchildren, Jacob and Amanda Bennett of Madison Heights and Ashley and Carson Wilde of Duluth, GA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Atkins, and her siblings, Eugene, Wilson, Laney, Virgil and Lindberg Atkins, Roberta Baker, Geneva Atkins and Pauline Alter.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 4 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Dr. E. Wayne Thompson and Rev. Joel Cress officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Liberty University in honor of her grandchildren who were both graduates, 1971 University Boulevard, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
