Velta Shaffer Dodson's Obituary
Velta Shaffer Dodson, 91, of Culpeper died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at her residence. She was born September 3, 1915 in Culpeper to the late Edward V. Shaffer, Sr. and Bessie Fletcher Shaffer.
Mrs. Dodson was a very active and dedicated member of Alum Springs Baptist Church until her failing health. There she served as Sunday School Director for fourteen years. She was also a past member of the Pink Ladies through Culpeper Regional Hospital. She and her husband, C.R. “Bum” owned and operated C.R. Dodson Trucking. Mrs. Dodson loved her family greatly and will be missed by all.
She is survived by a great nephew, Steven Craig Shaffer and his wife, Darlene of Culpeper, three sister-in-laws, Roberta Hankins of Culpeper, Frances Glascock of Culpeper, and Josephine Ford of Brightwood, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles R. Dodson “Bum”, two brothers, William Garnett Shaffer and E.V. Shaffer Jr.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 20, 2006 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Miller officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark James, Lewis Hawkins, Robert Apperson, Robert Clatterbuck, R.W. Jenkins, and Billy Yancey.
Flowers will be accepted and sent to Found and Sons Funeral Chapel and/or memorial contributions may be made in her name to Alum Springs Baptist Church, 11058 Dutch Hollow Rd., Culpeper, VA 22701.
