Varnell Creel "Butch" Payne, Jr.'s Obituary
Varnell Creel “Butch” Payne, Jr., 68, of Culpeper was promoted into Glory on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at UVA Transitional Care Hospital. He was born October 3, 1946 in Fauquier to Ruth W. Payne of Marshall and the late Varnell C. Payne, Sr.
Varnell drove tractor trailers for a number of years, owning and driving his own for several years. He later retired from the County of Culpeper in 2009.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jean H. Payne of Culpeper; one son, Jared M. Payne and his wife, Michele of Manassas; one brother, Scott Payne and his wife, Anne of Marshall; five grandchildren, Cassandra Jo of Newville, PA, Misty Marie, Jared, Jr., Elizabeth and Jamie Payne, all of Manassas; one nephew, Greg Payne and his wife, Tammy of Burke, VA; one niece, Shannon Silvious and her husband, Matt of Sitka, Alaska; and his mother-in-law, Virginia J. Hawkins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Mae Payne.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Young officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper V.F.W. Post 2524.
Pallbearers will be Todd Stanley, Willie Dodson, George Hoffman, Sr., Ron Neeley, Robert Clatterbuck and Allen Carpenter.
Donations may be made to Alum Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
