TJ and I used to go running together when we both could find time, and I learned a lot from him. The first time we went running together in downtown Fredericksburg, he taught me how to properly stretch before and after a run so that I wouldn’t be in agony afterwards, and he also taught me better running form. My knees are still thanking him to this day. We went to Soup & Taco afterwards. He insisted that he’d try what I usually get, chicken tacos and pupusas, and he loved it.
When was still in college at VCU, he drove all the way to Richmond to run with me and my buddy for the Monument Avenue 10k. In prior years I ran the 10k by myself, and it was great having TJ by my side this time for some friendly competition. His legs were much longer than mine so he always challenged me to keep up. I remember him cracking jokes that he was still taller than me despite me standing on the highest part of the podium for our picture. I will miss his goofy personality and laugh dearly.
He was so happy that he beat his Personal Record (PR) and got to ring the bell!
Despite needing to lay down from exhaustion in the Monroe Park grass immediately after the finish line, he still got up to ring the bell to say it was “TOO EASY”
I will always remember the many late nights we had playing video games together and the hilarious moments we shared.
