Thomas Glynn Walker, Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas Glynn Walker, Jr., 80, of Rappahannock County, Virginia, died on December 23, 2023, after a courageous battle against cancer. Tom spent his final years at Stonehaven Farm in Woodville, Virginia, where he lived his dream of foxhunting, keeping cattle, and spending time with his family.
Tom was born on November 8, 1943 to Elizabeth Fissell Walker and Thomas Glynn Walker, Sr. He grew up in Morristown, New Jersey, where he rode his pony, fox hunted, and cherished time spent with Mr. Rady, the farm manager whom Tom considered a second father. He attended The Peck School from Kindergarten through 9th grade, followed by The Lawrenceville School for grades 10-12, and played polo while at Lake Forest College as an undergraduate. He earned an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago and worked thereafter at Bankers Trust and at Morgan Stanley on Wall Street. Tom owned three businesses in New Jersey: Universal Chain, Universal Shaped Wire, and Carlton Chain. In 1973, Tom’s beloved daughter, Whitney, was born and welcomed home in Far Hills, NJ. After retiring to Virginia in 2001, Tom purchased and restored a historic house, and there he harvested his own hay crop, kept hunting horses, cared for his family and his adored Jack Russell Terriers. Tom married Caroline Baumgardner in 2005, and served as a loving and devoted father to their children, Marion (Mimi) and Thomas. An avid fox hunter, he was affiliated with the Thornton Hill Hounds, Keswick Hunt Club, Blue Ridge Hunt and Rappahannock Hunt.
Tom is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Gardiner; his wife, Caroline Baumgardner Walker; his children, Whitney Hailand Brown, Marion Hampton Walker, and Thomas Glynn Walker, III; son-in-law, Claude Leonard (Lee) Brown; grandchildren, Hale, Henry, Millie; and former spouse, Diana Hambleton. A cultivated man of open and generous persona, Tom is also survived by a circle of devoted friends who join his family in mourning his death.
