Thomas Edward Jenkins' Obituary
Thomas Edward Jenkins of Sperryville, VA was called home on September 28, 2017 at 2:58 pm while surrounded by family.
Eddie as he preferred to be called was born on Mt Vernon Farm where he worked as a farmer for most of his life. He spent 18 years at Avtex in Front Royal before going back to farming full time. He retired in 2008 after heart surgery. He had a great love for Mt Vernon Farm that he called home until his death.
His greatest love was his family. At the age of 13 he and his kin were intensely bonded by the sudden death of his father at an early age. His brothers, sisters and himself became tight knit as they took care of each other and their mother. Eddie passed on this bond to his own family. He always did what he could to make sure they were cared for like growing a garden that fed the whole family every year.
He married and had four children, which were his greatest pride and joy. As his family continued to grow so did his heart. He cherished the memories he made at the yearly family reunions, where he chatted with relatives, partook in the cornhole tournament, if only to share his opinion and coach, and watched as all of his children ran around and played. He could always be found cheering on his grandchildren at sporting events and rarely missed an opportunity to support RCHS athletics. Members of the community will never forget his presence as he sat in the corner at every sporting event.
He is survived by the love of his life, whom he married August 5, 1960, Mildred Jenkins of Front Royal. Four children, Wanda Early and husband Michael of Rixeyville, VA, Wendy Reid of Sperryville, VA and companion Larry Brown, Kathy Atkins and husband Jerry of Browntown, VA, and Thomas E. Jenkins, II and wife Bobbie Jo of Stanley, VA. Nine grandchildren, Angela Jenkins and husband Adam of Washington, VA, Wally Reid and wife Heather of Culpeper, VA, Tiffany Kibbe and husband David of Winchester, VA, Krystal Smoot of Browntown, VA, Eric Esparolini of Abilene, TX, Megan Early and fiancé Lance Walters of Rixeyville, VA, Taylor Jo and Tyler Jenkins of Stanley, VA, and Christian Lucas of Stanley, VA. Five great grandchildren, Brianna Settle, Mirandah and Ryan Jenkins and Dylan and Olivia Reid. Three sisters, Shirley Hitt, Margaret Bright, Nancy Jenkins and husband, Frank and brother, Bobby Jenkins and wife Linda.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Lloyd and Carrie Jenkins; brothers, John Jenkins, Jr. and Charles Jenkins; and sister, Rachel Ann Jenkins.
