Thomas Patrick Hartnett Jr.'s Obituary
In the first few hours of Tuesday, February 18, 2020, Thomas P. Hartnett Jr. lost a battle with cancer. He fought hard against it to the very bitter end. Born October 10, 1952 in Alexandria, VA, Tom was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and also attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA.
During his long work career Tommy became an accomplished carpenter and businessman, sometimes partnering with others and at other times as a sole proprietor for both remodeling and new build projects. He later held a position as construction administrator for a financial institution, then spent several years as a real estate appraiser for several banks. In his spare time he pursued many hobbies but had a life-long love affair with water especially the ocean and beaches of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas P. Hartnett Sr. and Mildred Roquemore Douglas Hartnett; and his brother-in-law, Dennis L. Huffstickler.
Tommy is survived by his siblings, Carolyn L. Huffstickler, Mary Ann Hartnett-Smith and her husband, Eric, Timothy M. Hartnett, John Douglas Hartnett and his wife, Patricia McDonald, Christine F. Mathews and her husband, Coy, Rebecca M. Durichek and her husband, John, David R. Hartnett, and Kelly L. Hartnett Wilkinson and her husband, Adrian. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces.
Tommy’s family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memory Gardens.
Tommy will be remembered by those who loved him for his adventurous nature, ethic of hard work, and generosity of spirit. He will be sorely missed.
