Dr. Thomas Graves Gilbert, Jr., DDS's Obituary
Dr. Thomas Graves Gilbert, Jr., DDS, 91, of Rapidan, died Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Novant Health UVA Culpeper Hospital. He was born September 19, 1931 in McKenzie, TN to the late Thomas Graves Gilbert, Sr. and Lottie Gilbert.
He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, University of Tennessee in Martin, TN, and University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN. Dr. Gilbert practiced dentistry in Culpeper for over 40 years before retiring. Thomas liked gardening and loved his dogs. He enjoyed genealogy and wrote two books on his family’s descendants. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Charlottesville Chapter, the Sons & Daughters of Virginia Founding Fathers, and his ancestor was Benjamin Harrison.
He is survived by his friend and caregiver, Kevin Ayers; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by three sisters, Lanier Maybry, Kathryn Varnell, and Jeane Tucker.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Brad Hales officiating.
