Thomas Wayne DeVoe's Obituary
Thomas (Tom) Wayne DeVoe was born in Orlando, Florida in 1965. Tom spent his early childhood in Orlando before his family became a military household following his mother's remarriage. Despite the frequent moves, Tom excelled in his Boy Scout Troop by earning a plethora of merit badges. It was here in Boy Scouts that Tom would begin his love for nature and practical preparedness.
Much of his later teen and early adult years were spent in D.C., Northern Virginia, Quantico, Bowling Green, and Virginia Beach. In high school, Tom joined the football and cross-country teams — winning many championships and awards for his athleticism.
It was in Virginia that Tom truly set down roots, forging a lifelong friendship with Craig Pryor and building a successful career that spanned management and sales — where he became the top representative in the NOVA region, and establishing himself as a highly regarded lawn care specialist. His professional journey eventually led him to the printing industry. Once his printing career began, Tom settled in Fredericksburg, VA where he married and had his only child Amber.
Tom is an avid fan of NASCAR and served on the Fan Council for three years. His love for MMA and Japanese culture led him to join the Aikido in Fredericksburg dojo where Tom dedicated himself to the peaceful art of Aikido. After his divorce in 2008, Tom moved to Spotsylvania, VA and spent his time with his daughter.
In 2011, Tom suffered an aortic tear that caused him to move back to NOVA for two years. After recovery, he and his daughter moved back to Spotsy where Tom remained for the remainder of his life. Right after his return, he met Tina, who he has been with for the past 11 years.
In his later years, Tom cultivated a diverse collection that reflected his varied interests, including diecast replicas, Death Wish Coffee Co. mugs and apparel, meditative singing bowls, and Blenko glassware. Despite not having grandchildren, he was a proud grandparent to his fur grandbabies. He enjoyed dog sitting and growing microgreens for his guinea pig granddaughters.
Tom was selfless and often thought of those he cared about more than himself. He was kind, passionate, and intentional in everything he did. Tom passed away on the morning of Saturday, May 3, 2025. The cause is unknown but it is thought to have been due to his previous heart condition.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley DeVoe; daughter, Amber Evangelista and husband Josiah; girlfriend, Tina Forss; brothers, Mike DeVoe, and Dan DeVoe and wife Emily; nieces, Holly Wojcikowski and husband Zeke, Morgan Punongbayan and husband RJ, Megan DeVoe, and Leah DeVoe; nephews, Josh DeVoe and fiancée Hannah, Will DeVoe, and Matthew DeVoe; life-long best friend, Craig Pryor; three great-nephews; a half-sister; and extended family in Illinois.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Duane DeVoe; and sister-in-law, Rhonda DeVoe.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the Beehive Event Center and Library Lounge, 1224 Powhatan St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
