T.I. Martin, Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas Irving Martin, Jr., “T.I. or Tinky” passed away peacefully Thursday morning at his home on Stoneybrook Lane in Culpeper at the age of 95.
He was born September 3, 1920 to the late Thomas I. Martin, longtime mayor of Culpeper, and Eleanor Clarke Martin at the family home on East Street. He was a 1943 graduate of Virginia Tech and Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corp during WW II.
T.I. was Vice President of Sales at The Rochester Corporation. He was a Charter Member of the Country Club of Culpeper, where he played golf well into his eighties. He served as president of the Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce, was on the Board of the Museum of Culpeper History, serving as President for three terms and served on the Culpeper Memorial Hospital Foundation Board. More recently, he co-chaired the 250th Anniversary Celebrations for both the Town and the County of Culpeper and he co-chaired the fundraising committee for Powell Wellness Center Health and Fitness. He was honored to be named the Grand Marshall of the 2001 Independence Day Parade, presented The Good Scout Award in 2003 and the L. B. Henretty Award for Community Service in 2009. Mr. Martin was an Elder at The Culpeper Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Harriet Hull of Charlottesville; brothers, John and William (Rose Marie) and a son, Andrew; and special friend, Madeline Douty and his beloved therapy dog, Ginger.
He is survived by three sons, David, Tommy (Dru), and Jonathan (Kristin); seven grandchildren, Hudson, David Andrew, Jessica (Shane), Ashby, Jillian (Robert) Jonathan and Austin; three great grandchildren, Georgia, Olivia and Sterling and a nephew Bill and nephew and Godson, John (Patty).
A memorial Service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Culpeper Baptist Church with Rev. R. Wayne Bernardo and Rev. Dan Carlton officiating. The Family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service.
A time of fellowship and visitation with the family will be held immediately following the memorial service in The Culpeper Presbyterian Fellowship Hall.
A private family burial will take place before the service with Joe Daniel, David Harris, Dale Douty, Dr. Brevard Wallace, Roger Kube and Champ Holman serving as pallbearers.
