Susan Margaret Stahl's Obituary
Susan Margaret Stahl, born in 1939 in Fargo ND, raised in Barnesville, MN and then Detroit, MI, died peacefully on February 8, 2018 in Fredericksburg, VA after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s’ Disease.
She had an unwavering, uncrushable faith, a love of books and music, and never felt more joy than when she was around her family.
She loved and was dearly loved by her children, David Lawson and Taylor Landrie (Fredericksburg, VA), Gerard and Jennifer Lawson (Richmond, VA), Edward and Lisa Lawson (Cameron Park, CA), Richard and Ann Lawson (Sudbury, MA) and Carolyn Lawson (Fredericksburg, VA).
Susan – or Grandma Muffin – was also well loved by her grandchildren, Naomi Lawson, Grace Lawson, Audrey Grace Lawson, Griffin Low, Katherine (Kate) Lawson, Tiernan Low, Neil Lawson and Nicholas Lawson. Her grandchildren have wonderful memories of baking with Grandma or gardening or reading together. Susan was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. All will cherish their memories of their time with her.
Susan is survived by her sister, Loretta Thielen (Fraser, MI) and brother, Daniel (Mary Ann) Stahl (Whitmore Lake, MI) and sister-in-law, Sandra Stahl (Nashville, TN).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Rosemary Stahl; and her beloved siblings, Alice Anne Femminineo, Leona Feighner, Rosemary Buchtel and Noel Stahl, we know they are now joyfully reunited, surrounded by God’s glory.
Susan was an active volunteer throughout her life - while raising her family, she founded a Detroit chapter of Le Leche League for breastfeeding mothers. She was a regular library volunteer wherever she lived, sharing her love of reading and books with everyone. She was always involved in religious and charitable activities, touching lives with God’s message of love.
A memorial service and celebration of Susan’s life will be held in Michigan in the Spring.
If you wish to make a memorial contribution, Susan’s favorite charity is the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit http://www.cskdetroit.org/ways_to_give/monetary_gifts/, she loved worshipping with Floris/Restoration United Methodist Church community http://restorationreston.org/give, and our family believes a donation to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=12603, will help find a cure so other people do not have to go through what she endured.
