Stokley A Brooks' Obituary
Stokley Arritt Brooks passed away August 26, 2022 at Carriage Hill Nursing Home where he had made his home for the past seven years. Stokley was born July 19, 1927 in Spotsylvania to the late Milton Raymond Brooks and Mary Alice Brooks.
For many years, Stokley was a chef at the Econo Lodge. He loved to garden. He always wanted to be able to say he got the first beans or tomatoes out of his garden- even if it meant picking them a little early. When he moved to the nursing home, his new family allowed him to have a garden. He looked forward every spring to planting peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes and maybe a flower or two. He also loved to play his guitar and loved to share his music with anyone who would listen.
Stokley leaves to cherish his memory many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his niece Frances. She will miss his daily call telling her about what he’d eaten or if he needed more hot sauce, what extra food she needed to bring or more importantly- what was growing in the garden. He will also be missed by his loyal visitors, Jean and Diane.
Stokley was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Lillian Brookman, Avis Williams, Dorothy Hall, Lamuel Brooks and Cora Houchin Scott.
The family would like to thank the many staff at Carriage Hill Nursing Home who treated Stokley so well over his many years there. They treated him like family and he was fond of his many girls.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. September 4,2022 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Carriage Hill Health & Rehab Resident Council, 6106 Health Center Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
