Steven Williams Treble's Obituary
Steven W. Treble, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Mary Washington Hospital surrounded by his family. Originally of Flushing, Queens, Steve spent most of his adult life in Montgomery, NJ, and retired to Fredericksburg, VA earlier this year with his wife of 40 years, Imogene. He was a 1981 graduate of Rutgers University and worked for more than two decades at Flemington Ditchman Ford.
Steve and Imogene met as teenagers in Highland Lakes, New Jersey, where their parents had summer homes. They shared a life-long love, and together they raised two sons, traveled the world, and supported each other unconditionally through all of life’s challenges.
Steve was a devoted father and husband, and an inspiration to all who knew him. He loved to swim, bike, and run, as well as to relax and do housework. He shared his love of staying active with his boys, teaching them to swim and bike, coaching their sports teams, and supporting them both in earning the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. With his older son, Christopher, he shared a fanatical love of the New York Yankees and with his younger son, Andrew, he passed on a love of cooking that propelled Andrew to pursue a career in the field.
As a mid-life crisis, at age 40 Steve took up doing triathlons, which he continued doing until a year before his passing. He completed countless Olympic and half-Iron Man distance triathlons, as well as four full Iron Man triathlons. The last five years of his life were spent, in part, battling neuroendocrine cancer with the same determination with which he tackled those triathlons. He fought until the end when, surrounded by family, he knew it was his time.
Steve was a man who loved and was loved, who taught and learned, who laughed, and who enjoyed life. Whether because of his 6’4” stature and commanding voice, his dry wit, or his calming presence and enormous heart, Steve made an immediate impression on all he met and will not be forgotten. His memory will live on in all those who knew and loved him. Steve was pre-deceased by his parents, Bernice and Harold. He is survived by his sister and two brothers, Jo-Ann (Wolfe), Timothy, and Robert, and their families; his best friend and the love of his life, Imogene; his son Christopher and his wife Elizabeth of Washington, DC; and his son Andrew of Denver, Colorado.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA. Steve’s family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo in Skillman, NJ. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation (http://www.marywashingtonhealthcare.com/foundations) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate).
