It really hurts to hear that Steve has passed away. We became friends back in 1990, when we were both sysops on CompuServe's former Fishnet Forum. At the time-- this was before the Internet opened up-- Fishnet was the online place to be, even though there were no pictures (only text). We were a very active group for the time. Many of us, including Steve, spent an hour or two (sometimes more) nearly every evening hanging out in the Fishnet chat rooms, talking about fish and computers, or just goofing off. I made a lot of good friends during that time, and a lot of us were able to meet in person over the years. It has been about 10 years since I've seen Steve in person, but I did get to meet him on a few occasions. And we kept in touch via e-mail over the years.
It's always interesting to meet online friends because they never seem to match your mental image of them. I knew Steve worked with computers, so I pictured him as a clean cut, suit-and-tie-wearing business person. In real life, he was more of a chain-smoking hippie with a Boston accent!
Anyway, Steve was an interesting, funny, and likeable guy and I will miss my dear friend.
