I only met Steve a couple times at the annual sheltie picnic, but his love of animals was amazing, and helping us out at the picnics was great. RIP, Steve, glad you are not in pain anymore, and Lynne, hang in there, and I'm sorry for your loss. I know you miss him greatly.
I have always considered Steve a close friend, even though we didn't see each other very often. I met him online as a fellow volunteer sysop in CompuServe's Fishnet forum in 1990, but it soon grew to occasional contacts at fish shows and trade conferences. My friendship expanded when he and Lynne moved to the DC metro area and included several social gatherings and email contacts over the years. Steve, I will miss your helpfulness and ready humor. Lynne, it is my heartfelt wish that our friendship continues to grow. --Debbie Kitchin

I knew Steves name around aquarium club circles, but became friendly with him after he purchased some books from me as I started my new book business. We chatted a lot over various books he was planning on buying. I am saddened to hear the news of his passing, and I hope his family finds comfort in the memories they hold dear of times past. It really hurts to hear that Steve has passed away. We became friends back in 1990, when we were both sysops on CompuServe's former Fishnet Forum. At the time-- this was before the Internet opened up-- Fishnet was the online place to be, even though there were no pictures (only text). We were a very active group for the time. Many of us, including Steve, spent an hour or two (sometimes more) nearly every evening hanging out in the Fishnet chat rooms, talking about fish and computers, or just goofing off. I made a lot of good friends during that time, and a lot of us were able to meet in person over the years. It has been about 10 years since I've seen Steve in person, but I did get to meet him on a few occasions. And we kept in touch via e-mail over the years.
It's always interesting to meet online friends because they never seem to match your mental image of them. I knew Steve worked with computers, so I pictured him as a clean cut, suit-and-tie-wearing business person. In real life, he was more of a chain-smoking hippie with a Boston accent!
Anyway, Steve was an interesting, funny, and likeable guy and I will miss my dear friend.

I knew Steve to be a kind, generous and gentle soul all of the 30+ years I had the privilege of knowing him. We shared a love of tropical fish and aquarium societies and it was at aquarium society activities that I came to know and appreciate him. We will all miss him in the years to come.
