Stephen Kenneth Nelson's Obituary
On April 5, 2017, heaven acquired a new angel, Steven K. Nelson. Our brother Steve passed away very suddenly, at the age of 60. Always known as a gentle, kind, and caring man to all people he came in touch with and grew to know. He touched many hearts during his life. This spring, Steve was preparing to move to Central MN to start his retirement.
Steve is preceded in death by parents, Harvey K. and Gene M. Nelson. He is survived by sisters, Pam Lassonde (Larry), Beth Nelson, and Patti Nelson; nephews, Shane King, and Luke Lassonde; and niece, Danielle Lassonde.
While growing up in Jamestown, North Dakota, Steve excelled in the sport of swimming and diving. He participated in the Jamestown Varsity HS Swimming team, as well as the USA AAU swimming league. In addition, he earned his scuba diving license. Steve’s best stroke was the freestyle - whether participating in individual competitions or as the team relay anchor. His speed was brisk and fluid. Steve was nicknamed ‘The Bullet’. Steve’s accomplishments earned him a sport/swimming scholarship while attending college at North Dakota State University.
Steve, an avid outdoorsman, loved to hunt, fish and be outdoors. He shared this passion with everyone. No matter the season or the state or country, Steve was always looking forward to the next outdoor adventure.
Steve moved to the DC area in the late 1970s, to be with his family. When the family moved back to Minnesota, he stayed in Virginia. Steve worked at several locations before becoming a floor installer with Knobby’s Affordable Flooring in Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania, VA. He was known as a meticulous worker and happily worked for them for many years.
Steve truly loved and appreciated his “Virginia family” of coworkers and friends as he always talked fondly of them. We are extremely grateful to his Virginia family’s acceptance to take Steve into their hearts and homes. We sincerely ‘thank’ each and every one of you. We humbly ask that you remember our brother, Steve, in your celebrations, as this is what he would have wanted. So, crack open that ‘Bud’, be sure to toast him!
In lieu of flowers, Stephen’s family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to MWA or Minnesota Waterfowl Association, Woodie Camp, 907 First Street North, Hopkins, MN 55343; please note: Steve Nelson-Woodie Camp in the memo line.
Any other correspondence can be sent to Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, c/o Pam Lassonde, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
