Dear Uncle Melvin, Carol and family,
I was saddened to hear of my dear first cousin's passing. I will always remember him seeing him at Nanny's and how excited I was. He had such a bright personality and was such a joker. I will never forget the hand buzzer he used to tease me with.

Dear Mrs. Coleman and family,
I just wanted to say that I appreciate all the kindness he shared with me. I work at Wells Fargo and I would do his deposits regularly and I just want to let you know he was such a nice person and I hate it. I really enjoyed seeing him in the Drive Thru and he would always ask me "Michael, you never get a day off do you?" because I typically work six days a week and he was so kind and caring to ask that about me. It really meant a lot and just by knowing him by processing his deposits, he was such a kind man. Whenever I saw him, just our interaction would make my day better, he was one of those people who make your day better just by seeing them. So thank you Mr. Coleman. I hope all is well with the family and you all have my condolences, thank you so much for keeping me informed along the way I was worried about him.

I too knew Steve from the gridiron. As such he was my mentor, friends and adviser. The news of his passing took me by surprise and I offer my sincere condolneces. He always called me "Mr. Hensley" and we had several conversation about the submaine service. Steve was good man and a fine American, it was an honor working with him.

Dear Carol and Family,
Steve always had the best advice to give and the best stories to tell. I always enjoyed hearing Steve and my dad (Gary) tell the old fishing, camping and other stories from their youth. When I was little my dad would tell me bed time stories, but not ones you read from books, he'd tell the stories of Steve and he fishing, and Steve stepping on the snapper turtle or other funny and crazy stories. I always enjoyed hearing them. And as I got older, Steve would send me the nicest letters with wonderful advice and encouragement. He was a wonderful man, and a wonderful Godfather. He was very important to our family and always will be.

Dear Carol, Mel, and Family,
What a joy to have grown up with Steve. I have so many memories of our old Red Fox gang. Steve's antics were legendary. In the years before electronics turned kids in to house dwellers, we were outside from morning until well after dark terrorizing the neighborhood and each other. Street football, night fishing at Burke Lake (and avoiding the rangers) building and destroying each others forts in the woods, or just sitting in the yard and listening to the radio or our old LP's; we never had a dull moment. Steve was always right in the mix of whatever mischielf was going on. This world will surely be less without him in it. But; he has gone on to make mischief upstairs, and will no-doubt be organizing a football game with the angels.

Dear Mrs. Coleman and Family:
I offer my sincere condolences to the family from the Rogers Family. Steve helped train me for football officiating four to five years ago. It didn't stop there, there is always more to learn, new rule modifications, and room for refinement/improvement. I took advantage of every moment to learn, ask questions and observe. For most of the younger veteran officials like myself, there is a part of Steve, his influence, and football officiating philosophy in each of our officiating styles. If you come to our games, you'll see some of the effects of Steve's football official training techniques. I even managed to get some photos and video footage of Steve during training.
Steve seemed to have respect for God, Christian values, and for those who practiced Christian values. May God comfort you in this time of loss. May your good memories of Steve help in the grieving/healing process, bringing you joy, laughter and pleasant thoughts. Surround yourselves with a prayerful, positive and supportive community. Our deepest condolences to your entire family. I knew Steve for the better part of 15 years as a Football Coach with SYA and then later as a Referee working the FCYFL games. Steve was always a pleasure to work with. My oldest son, Clay, was fortunate enough to have Steve as a coach for 3 of his years in SYA Football and always enjoyed Steve's wit and enthusiasm for the game and his desire to see the boys improve and grow. Over the years as we would meet a various games he was either refereeing or evaluating the refereeing, we always talked about both our boys in the Navy and how they were doing.
I will miss our conversations on the sidelines.
All the players and coaches that have known Steve over all these years are better people for that honor.

I officiated with Steve for many years. I always enjoyed it when I had the privilege of refereeing with Steve. It was clear that Steve's main reason for being on the field was to help the kids. I admired, respected and liked him. I will miss him very much. Your family will be in my prayers.

Steve was a great official and always enjoyed helping the kids learn the game within the rules of the game. He was a good friend and official. He will be missed!
