Stanley Maxwell's Obituary
Stanley “Shady Boots” Maxwell departed this life on July 26, 2022, surrounded by family at his home in Fredericksburg, VA. Stanley is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Reed-Maxwell, his father, John Maxwell, his aunt, Myrtle Keith, his brothers, John G. Maxwell and Robert L. Maxwell, and his beloved wife, Billi H. Maxwell, as well as, his sister-in- law, Margaret A. Price, his nephews, Dwayne Witten and Danny Stigers, and special friend, Willie Mae Bolden.
Stanley was born in Watkins Glen, NY on September 1, 1930, to Mildred and John Maxwell. He attended the Schuyler County School System. At age eight, Stanley began working at the Watkins Glen Dairy where he remained until he enlisted in the United States Marines. After five years of Honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, he decided to transition to the United States Air Force. While serving in the military, he met his best friend, Willie Berkley, and while on a trip to Willie’s hometown of Greentown, WV, he met his future wife, Billi Henri Dandridge. From this union, was born their three daughters, Roxanne, Stephanie, and Letetia. On November 30, 1974, Stanley was Honorably discharged from the United States Air Force with 23 years of service.
After retiring from the United States Air Force, Stanley went on to work at the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO), where he continued employment until his retirement in November 1994. Following his retirement Stanley and Billi built their dream home in Dalzell, SC. While in South Carolina they joined Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church where he became an esteemed Trustee. He also continued to enjoy socializing and traveling with friends old and new.
He was a lifelong third-degree Mason; an honorary member of the West Virginia Club; an avid reader, traveler, golfer, and bowler. You could find Stanley capturing photographs of his family and friends, being known as the “Gordan Parks” of the family. Stanley was known for always driving a Cadillac.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Roxanne Michele Collins (Bradley); Stephanie Carol Maxwell; Letetia Hope Taylor (Mark); grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Cain (Terry), Tiara Angelica Collins, George Maxwell Collins, Jordan Maxwell Edmonds, Taylor Jordan Williams, and Sydney Caitlin Taylor; great-grandson, Hazon Tyrell Baldwin; nieces, Jacqueline Ann Mitchell and Nancy Carol Witten; nephews, Deryl Witten, Darnell Witten, and Danny Ray Witten; great-niece, Charnita Ward, and great-nephew, Chase Ward. Also left to cherish Unc’s memory are a host of nieces and nephews.
