Sidney Armistead Park
1926 – 2008
Sidney Armistead Park, a Fluvanna County resident for 28 years, passed away on October 11, 2008, at his home in Palmyra, Va.
Sidney Park was born April 9, 1926, in The Plains, in Fauquier County, Va. and spent his early life in Prince William County. Sidney served in the Coast Guard during World War II. After his marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Ann Summers Lightner, Sidney moved to Annandale in Fairfax County. He was the owner and operator of Park Brothers Moving Company for 20 years.
During a drive to visit a friend in Palmyra, Sidney and Ann missed a turn ending up in front of a yellow farm house which was for sale. They were enamored with the idea of living in the country and purchased the house. Sidney then retired in 1980, moving to Palmyra with his wife and son, Phillip. They started up another business, “The Barn” selling antiques and used household goods, making many friends through this business. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Sidney is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann. He left four children, David Park and his wife, Helen; Vickie Sullivan and her husband Ronald; Patricia Montanino and her husband, Peter and Phillip Park and his wife, Yvonne. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jesse Park, Stacie Mulholland, Todd Sullivan, Alexander Park, Jodie Sullivan, Tyler Montanino and Lydia Montanino. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, as well as his brother, Willis Foley, his wife Thelma and his sister-in-laws, Louise Jamision, Margaret Seay and Helen Ray. He also leaves a special friend and helper, Barry Ross and many other friends who will sorely miss him.
There will be a private interment. A celebration of his life will be held later this month. In lieu of flowers, contributions to be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2
