Shirley Anne Mackey's Obituary
Shirley Simpson Mackey, 79, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Mary Washington Hospital as a result of lung cancer.
She graduated from the local schools in Bowling Green, KY.
She furthered her education in San Diego County, CA graduating from Palomar College in Vista, CA as well as San Diego State University with a master’s degree, Magna Cum Laude in social work in 1987. Shirley worked at the VA Hospital in La Jolla, CA and the VA Hospital in North Hampton, MA before moving to Arlington, VA. She later managed several Public Storage units in Northern Virginia.
She has two sons, John M. Stirn of Fredericksburg and William O. Stirn of Richmond; twin daughters, Katrina Leigh Stirn of Raleigh, NC and Jeanmarie Renoll of Springfield, VA; and four grandchildren, Byron, Kelsey, and Lindsey Renoll and Christopher Mackey. She was married to Gy. Sgt. John Mackey USMC Ret.
Services will be held at a later date.
