Shirley Ann Hitt's Obituary
Shirley Ann Hitt, 76, of Castleton passed away peacefully after a long battle with diabetes on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 16, 1948, at her family home in Rappahannock County to the late James Thomas and Elizabeth Catherine Hawkins.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Lisa Releford (Jim), three grandchildren, Holly Hitt, Corey Releford, and Jeremy “Luke” Lucas Releford, three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Leah, and Bryson, and two sisters, Hazel Haines (her twin) and Lois Alther. Also surviving is Sherry Brown, who was like a daughter to Shirley.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased in death by her husband James “Jimmy” Harrison Hitt, sons, James Stuart Hitt and Michael Alan Hitt, and 6 siblings, Josephine Pickett, Pauline Grigsby, Mary Knicely, James Thomas Hawkins Jr, Charles “Charlie” Davis Hawkins, and William “Billy” Russell Hawkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Wayne Woodard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12 p.m.
