Shirley W. Barnes' Obituary
Shirley W. Barnes, 82, of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Culpeper Health and Rehab Center. She was born October 14, 1940 to the late Linwood M. West, Sr and Mary Lee West Seeber. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Barnes, and, son Gregory M. Lewis.
Shirley grew up in Alexandria, VA, and lived most of her life there. She worked most of her life as a computer programmer and was one of the best in her field. She loved the beach, especially the trips she and her late husband took to the Outer Banks. She was interested in everything that had to do with history. Thus, she developed a love for reading books and watching documentaries. She enjoyed traveling when she had the opportunity.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Anzengruber (Brad) of Lovettsville Va., and sons Steve Lewis of Culpeper, Va., Jeffery Lewis (Michelle) of Broadlands, Va., and Darryl Lewis (Denise) of Pickerington, Ohio and brother, Daniel West of Alexandria, Va. She leaves behind five grandchildren; Joshua, Sarah, Rachel, Michael, and Ryan; and three great grandchildren; Hannah, Hailey and River, and several extended family members.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Virginia Memorial Park, 11490 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551 with viewing from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. in their chapel. A funeral service will take place at 12:45 P.M. with a committal service following at the graveside.
