Shelva Jean Rhodes' Obituary
Shelva Jean Rhodes, 86, of Ladysmith, VA, claimed the promise of eternal life at home surrounded by loved ones on the morning of September 28, 2023.
Shelva lived a life full of love and found joy in her service to others.
She was born in Mt. Pleasant, PA in 1937, to her mother, Olive Virginia Wadsworth, who passed shortly thereafter. She was raised by her grandmother and other family members. She graduated from Ligonier Valley High School, where she was crowned May Queen.
She married her husband Jorge L. Rhodes in Fort Knox, KY in 1958. Together they had two children, Jorge and Stephanie.
After raising her children, she worked in Customer Service at General Products for over 20 years, retiring in 1998.
She was a devoted member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg, VA where she loved to serve.
Shelva will always be remembered for her deep faith, unconditional love, fun sense of adventure and the way that she gave her amazing hugs. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, grandmother, great grandmother, or friend, and will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
She is survived by her son Jorge Rhodes Jr (Audrey) and daughter Stephanie Serrett. Shelva, also known as Grammy and Gram, loved her role as grandmother and great grandmother to her five grandchildren, Kristina (Chais), Michael (Amy), Emily (Josh), Chuck (Riley), Zach, and Mandi, and ten great grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Lexi, Izzy, Jaxon, Carmelina, Colten, Luka, Thomas, and Bristol. She was preceded in death by her husband Jorge, and son in law, Jeffery Serrett.
Pallbearers will be Chais Buckner, Josh Turner, Michael Rhodes, Chuck Serrett, Derek Wolfgang, Zach Serrett, and Ryan Wagner.
Visitation will be from 6pm-8pm Tuesday October 3, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral home, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg VA. The celebration of life will be held at 11am Wednesday October 4, 2023 at Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 2208 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg Va, followed by a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hillcrest United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg, VA.
