From Shane's family , thank you all for the prayers and kind words .
Shane was a student of mine at Spotsylvania High School. He was an ornery young man with a great smile. Once in class I heard a turkey call in the midst of the students. I walked through the desks, came up to Shane and said "Spit it out." Shane, with some surprise, asked me how I knew. I told him that my dad made those type of turkey calls himself and I had grown up with them. Shane smiled and put the call away. After that, we spoke of hunting and all things Spotsylvania.
Shane also gifted me with one of my favorite memories. I was wearing birkenstock shoes at the time and Shane asked about my "ogre" shoes. I asked him to repeat his question and then I explained what kind of shoes I was wearing. I will never forget 1) a ninth grader at the time using that wonderful vocabulary word, and 2) the wonderful way he pronounced the word "ogre."
After Shane graduated from Spotsy, I ran into him again at Golden Corral. He was so kind and generous with his compliments. He spoke highly of our work at the high school and offered to come back to speak to the students about the work world.
And Shane came to my rescue as a member of the Sheriff's dept. At this point, I was working at Courtland High School and my inability to open the building in a timely manner set the alarm off. Shane met me at the front of the building as I apologized for my mistake. He said he thought it might be me when he saw my name come up on his on board computer. Always the professional, he helped me get in the building and take care of the alarm.
I count myself lucky and blessed to have known Shane and to have interacted with him throughout the various stages of his life. He will truly be missed by me and he will always have special place in my heart.
I am truly sorry for your family's loss. He will always remain a bright spot in my teaching career.

I worked with Shane at Western Sizzlin and my husband worked with him at the Sheriff's dept. He was such a nice guy and will be missed by many. I pray that God will comfort you in this time of sorrow. Loving thought and prayers, Margaret and Scott Quinn

On behalf of the Loss Prevention Team of Belk at Spotsylvania Towne Center we send our deepest sympathies to Shane's family. He will truly be missed. Though we had not seen him in sometime, he was always joking and easy to work with when he was dispatched to our store for a shoplifter in custody. It was always a delight to see him coming through the door.
We will surely miss him.
