Sarah Calvert Hitt's Obituary
Sarah Calvert Hitt of Brandy Station, Virginia died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born in King George County on May 12, 1918 to the late William Allie Spillman and the late Sarah Jones Spillman. Calvert lived with her family in King George on "Como", the family farm, until she began her college education in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Mrs. Hitt was a life long teacher who taught grades five through seven in the Arlington and Culpeper school systems. She graduated from Mary Washington College and then received her master's degree in math from Columbia University in New York. She married Claude T. Hitt in 1960 and they lived at Brandy Farm until 2005 when they began residing at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community.
She is survived by her step-sons Louis Ford Hitt and his wife, Ann Hunter Simpson of Hartwood, Virginia, Claude Thompson Hitt, Jr. and his wife, Patricia B. Hitt of Brandy Station, four grandchildren, Travis Marsh Hitt and his wife, Dallas Hambrick Hitt of Bluemont, Morgan Ford Hitt of Culpeper, Jason Christopher Hitt of Brandy Station and Leigh-Ann E. Hitt of Rixeyville and two great-grand children, Travis Marsh Hitt, Jr. and Lucienne-Louise Hamrick Hitt. She is also survived by two nephews, William A. Spillman, III, his wife, Beverly and their children, Mary Alice, Beth, and Ann and David R. Spillman, his wife, Linda, and their children, Michael and Sherri.
Mrs. Hitt was preceded in death by her siblings, William A. Spillman, Jr., Gordon C. Spillman and Mary Alice Spillman Haley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Found & Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
