Sandra Haught Walker's Obituary
Sandra Grace Haught Walker, 76, passed away at her home in Catharpin, Virginia, on November 9, 2018. She was born on October 13, 1942, in Elkwood, Virginia, to Warren Winfield “Dutch” Haught and Olive Maddox Swan Haught. She attended and graduated from Culpeper High School, where she met her husband of 58 years, John Martin Walker, both of whom were members of the Class of 1960. On July 1, of that same year, they were married and soon thereafter moved to Manassas, Virginia, where they resided until 1977 when they had their current home, Dutch Haven, built in Catharpin, Virginia.
Sandra worked as a secretary in the Warrenton office of the Virginia State Police from her early 20s until her retirement in 1996. Since she thoroughly enjoyed her occupation, when asked, she returned to work part-time, and later as a volunteer, in various State Police offices until earlier this year. When at home, she enjoyed spending time baking, gardening, and tending to her beloved animals, including her numerous Australian Blue Heelers over the years, her one Boxer, and her miniature and Arabian horses, the latter of which she raised and bred to show and sell, and also offered riding lessons, while owner of Dutch Haven Arabians. She also dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she will forever be known as “Ma.” They were the inspiration for the very memorable meticulously planned and executed holiday celebrations, which centered around all of the children and brought her incredible joy over the years.
She is survived by her husband, and her two daughters; Kimberley Sandra Walker Hale and her husband, Gary Hale, of Gainesville, Virginia; and Stephanie Haught Walker Crowe, and her husband, Johnnie Crowe, of Manassas, Virginia. Also surviving Sandra are the previously mentioned cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Hale Rauss, her husband, Patrick Rauss, and their three children Kaylin Grace, Conner Patrick, and Kinley Brooks of Gainesville, Virginia; Justin Michael Hale, his wife, Kristen Kelly, and their two children Hadleigh Elizabeth and Hudson Walker of Warrenton, Virginia; Benjamin Adam Hale of Catharpin, Virginia; Leslie-Brhette Crowe, her partner, Aaron Pope, and son Colton Lawrence, of Manassas, Virginia; and Ian Walker Crowe, and his partner Jonathan Trinh of Washington, D.C. Sandra is also survived by her siblings, Sarah McNemar of Culpeper, Virginia, and Dr. Jacob R. Haught II and his wife, Carol, of Bristol, Virginia. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Ruth M. Haught, Warren W. Haught, Jr., June H. Judd, Catherine H. Myers, Frances H. Jett, and Patricia H. Setti.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
