Samuel Abraham Lacks' Obituary
Samuel Abraham “Abe” Lacks, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at his residence after a long illness. He was born September 24, 1933 to the late Samuel Elijah Lacks and Virginia Newcomb Lacks of Clover, VA.
Mr. Lacks served 2 years in the US Army and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He worked at Burlington Mills in Halifax, VA as well as for Wyatt A. Mills Plumbing and later retired from VDOT.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Backe Lacks; two sisters, Josie Lacks Mills and Gertie Lacks Backe; sister-in-law, Brenda Backe Smith and her husband, Granville Hugh; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Estelle Lacks Meadows of South Boston, VA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2 pm at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Adam Meisberger officiating. Military honors will be provided by Culpeper V.F.W. Post 2524.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Rapidan, PO Box 1715, Culpeper, VA 22701 &/or American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave., Ste. B, Winchester, VA 22601.
