Ruth Helen Shelton's Obituary
Ruth Helen Shelton, 66, of Culpeper, died Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Culpeper Hospital. She was born October 18, 1958, in Warrenton, VA to the late Edgar William and Helen Marion Thomasson.
Ruth was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church for over 34 years. She was a choir member, taught Sunday School, and served in various other ministries at the church. Ruth loved spending time with her grandkids, and they loved their Meemaw. She enjoyed gardening in her yard. She was a retired US Postal Clerk, and a proud police officer’s wife.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James Harvey Shelton; two children, James Aaron Shelton (Kelly) and Megan Elizabeth Reed (Garret); four grandchildren, Cassia Renee Shelton, Austin James Shelton, Robert James Reed, and Leo Garret Reed; and one sister, JoAnn Plaia (R.J.).
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lawrence “Larry” Thomasson and Ronald “Ronnie” William Thomasson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church, 8803 James Madison Hwy, Warrenton, VA 20187.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church with her son, Pastor Jim Shelton, officiating.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. Pallbearers serving the family will be Austin Shelton, Robert Reed, Leo Reed, Garret Reed, Eddie Thomasson, and Roger MacDonald.
