Ruth Elizabeth Olsen's Obituary
Ruth Elizabeth Olsen, 77, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 surrounded by her family.
Ruthie, as she was known to many, was born and raised in New York City, the youngest of four children. After marrying the love of her life, George W. Olsen, the family moved to Stafford County in 1963 and raised their three children, Scott W. Olsen, Eric L. Olsen and Stacy O. Horne.
Ruth had an extraordinary and diverse career, working in the 1970’s at WFVA radio station and the Fredericksburg Crisis Center, in the 1980’s at the Fredericksburg Circuit Court Clerk’s office and in the 1990’s for the law firm of Gardner, Maupin and Sutton.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; and is survived by her three children; her three sisters; her daughters-in-law, Tina Olsen and Sandra Grossett; her son-in-law, Andrew Horne; five grandchildren, Heather, Rachel, Ryan, Charlotte and Dayton; her step grandchild, Jamie Tierney and three great grandchildren, Zoe, Madeline and Christopher.
Ruth’s family will receive friends Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 19, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church, 810 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg with the Rev. Allen H. Fisher, Jr. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Ruth’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Mary Washington Home Health & Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA 22407 or to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 1006, Fredericksburg, VA 22402.
