Ruth Vashti Breeden's Obituary
Ruth Vashti Breeden, 84 of Culpeper died Thursday, March 13, 2013 at her home. She was born September 8, 1929 in Springfield, VA to the late Welbie Redmon and Elizabeth Catherine Kearns.
Mrs. Breeden was passionately devoted to her family and her beloved husband of 54 years, the late Blackhawk Joseph Breeden. Mrs. Breeden passed peacefully in her home under the care of dedicated family members and Medi Home Hospice. “Ms. Ruthie” Breeden had a large family including 15 children and was known as “Grandma” to over 75+grandbabies spanning 5 generations. She was born in Springfield and lived as an adult in Alexandria, Falls Church and Culpeper.
She was a Senior Accounting Analyst for the National Wildlife Federation. She was very active in the Haymarket Chapter of the Eastern Star, where she held the position of Worthy Matron. She was also an active member of the Shriners, where she enjoyed dancing and cooking at Shriner and local Moose Lodges and Church events. She was an amazing cook, organic gardener and sought after for her amazing food products and advice for winning recipes. She was baptized and sang soprano in her church.
She retired and spent the last 25 years on her farm in Culpeper where she continued to pursue her love of camping (member of Virginia Arva Bird Dog Camping Club), fishing and famous backyard barbeques with homemade Jam, “slaw” and dilly beans from the trees and the plants she grew each season. She truly loved cooking, crocheting, canning organic vegetables, and taking care of the family cow, horses, mules, cats and dogs. She was a strong matriarch and left a legacy of faith, courage and enduring love.
She is survived by 12 children; Mary Catherine Allen, Welbie L. “Willy” Frazier, Patricia Barnette, Barbara Jean Reese, Linda Barton, Irene Prewitt, Joanna Breeden, John Frazier, Margaret Irle, Steve Frazier, Patsy Frazier and Frank Frazier Jr., 33 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 children, Gloria Jean Breeden, Millard Breeden and Vicky Armistead and her 3 siblings, Viola Purdy, Lena Devers and Chester Redmon.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday March 21, 2014 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels of Culpeper with her nephew Rev. Bart Purdy officiating.
Interment will follow at the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery.
