Russell Sage McManious' Obituary
Russell Sage McManious, age 79, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 surrounded by his family at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. He was born October 16, 1946 to Alton and Nadene McManious in LaMesa, CA.
Russ lived in Little Meadows, PA, until moving to Staten Island where he then joined the Army in 1963. After being honorably discharged from the Army as a veteran Combat Engineer in 1967 he moved to Culpeper, VA where he was a truck driver for Sisk Trucking for many years. Russ chose to build on his natural abilities and the skills he learned in the Army by working on form pouring at the Lake Anna Power Plant. That experience launched a successful career in the construction industry, including commercial projects, many years as a superintendent for Virginia Housing Corp, and, for the last several decades, as a custom home builder. He took great pride in using his talents, seeing projects through to completion, and forming many life-long friendships along the way.
Russ was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4123, and enjoyed live music, dancing and the friendships he formed there over the years. He loved traveling with Joan, creating lasting memories with close friends and family while visiting destinations across the U.S. & beyond. Whether it was a spontaneous day trip or 2-week cruise, Russ was always ready to go – his only question was, “When are we going?”
Russ lived a full and active life & always seemed on the move. Whether he was helping others or enjoying one of his many hobbies - fishing, golfing, camping or gathering for a meal with friends and family- you never quite knew what he might be up to at any given time.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Nadene McManious, his sister Tammy Beam and his brother-in-law Steven Chernok.
He is survived by his sons, Stacey Lee McManious & his wife Dawn, and Russell Brian McManious & wife Jennifer, all of Virginia; his former wife and mother of his children, Doris McManious; and his long-time love and greatest confidant, Joan DeShazo, of Virginia. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Melissa & Forrest Moore, Connor & Linday Hoster, along with four beloved great grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy.
Russ is survived by his siblings, Kerlin McManious & partner Sandra Abell, Judy Bender, Kim Chernok, Carol & Charlie Cave, Timothy & Carla McManious and Kim & Gary Carlson, his brother-in-law Rick Beam, & 47 nieces, nephews, great- nieces & nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Deeply loved by Joan & family, Russ lived a life with a happy heart and no regrets, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories that will be forever treasured by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg, VA. The service will be live streamed for those who are not able to attend at https://foundandsons.com
