Russell Humphries Carder's Obituary
Russell Humphries Carder, 90, of Culpeper departed his earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. Russell was born into this world on January 28, 1922 to the late Bernard Amos and Jessie Mae Carder. Russell was a history enthusiast and enjoyed sharing the story of the day he was born which was the night of the big snowstorm, the Knickerbocker, and the subsequent collapse of the Knickerbocker Theater in Washington, DC.
Russell was retired from The Culpeper Star-Exponent, having worked over 50 years as a pressman. During his career, he saw many changes from hand pressing letters to learning the use of computers to do these things. The longevity of his career and his dedication to his craft were important to Russell. He was also member of Culpeper Baptist Church since a teenager. His dog Skippy was a true companion to him. Mr. Carder adored his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters: Brenda C. Marshall and her husband, Terry of Unionville, Sue C. McDaniel and her husband, Bruce of Culpeper; step-daughter Marjorie Ann Parker and step-son Roger L. Parker and wife, Kim of Culpeper. Additional survivors include his grandchildren: Matthew Brian Marshall and Ashley S. Keys and her husband, Matt; five great-grandchildren- Hunter, Claire, and Hannah Keys and Johnathan and Tyler Marshall. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren Frank L. Parker, Jr. and his wife, Kim, Philip Parker, Cassandra Scott, and her husband, K. R., Melissa Deal and her husband, Gary, and Mark Parker and a host of step great grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mae Carder, his step-son, Frank L. Parker, and all of his siblings, brothers Silas, Melvin, and Wallace of Culpeper; Cecil of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, Harold F. Carder of Brandon, Florida, and sister, Elizabeth R. Carder of Culpeper.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel at 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Dr. Ted Fuson officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be sent in memory of Russell to Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West St., Culpeper, VA 22701.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation for the care and kindness they demonstrated during Russell's stay there and to Hospice of the Rapidan for their additional support.
