Ruffin Manning's Obituary
Ruffin Manning, 89, of Fredericksburg, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born and lived in the Cypress Creek Community of Duplin County, NC for many years. Ruffin graduated from Richlands High School. He earned his Bachelor’s from East Carolina University and achieved his Master’s degree from the University of Maryland. Ruffin taught in the Duplin County, NC public school system. He also worked in several different school administrative positions in Prince William County and Spotsylvania County. Ruffin retired as principal of Robert E. Lee Elementary School. He was a dedicated member of Hope Presbyterian Church. Ruffin enjoyed food, spending time with his family, farming beef cows, antique tractors, gardening and camping.
Ruffin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mattie C. Manning, two daughters, Amy Beard (Butch), and Lynn Hawkins (Dale), all of Nokesville, a son, Tom Manning (Donna), of Fredericksburg, three grandchildren; David Beard (Amy), Tammy Schwendeman (Jeremy) and Jacob Manning and three great-grandchildren; Sam and Melanie Beard, and Mattie Schwendeman.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Hope Presbyterian Church, 11121 Leavells Rd., Fredericksburg with Pastor Alan Hager officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ruffin’s memory to the Faison Center for Autism, 1701 Byrd Ave., Richmond Va., 23220.
